My name is Topaz. I’m a college teacher, writer, husband, father of two, and a faithful Catholic. I do my best to juggle all of these while dealing with my mental illness — a constant thorn in my side.
About my mental illness: I suffer from bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, paranoia, PTSD, and I have a recent history of suicide attempts. I’m currently on several medications and see a psychiatrist and therapist on a regular basis.
It truly is a miracle that I’m alive; my first attempt was serious, and to this day I don’t see how I survived.
For a long time, I ignored God’s whispering in my ear. Less than a year after my suicide attempts, I finally listened and realized He was calling me to start blogging about my experiences. I’ve never been a proactive, innovative individual; I’ve just been content minding my own business and being a loner. I guess God had other plans for me.
My purpose for this blog is to be a source of hope and encouragement for all people of all beliefs by sharing my mental health and faith experiences. If you are not “religious,” I hope you can still find little nuggets in my posts to help you along your life journey. The bottom line is that, despite any differences, we’re all human and need each other since we all have our own personal struggles.
If you have any questions, feedback, or just need someone to talk to, I’m here for you. Just drop me a line.
